about

Maija Leimane is a multidisciplinary artist and creator from Latvia whose creative journey began in childhood, growing up in a creative environment and a rich world of emotions and sensations. Her early creative expression took shape through computer graphics and web design, yet the dream of creating tangible art and working with her hands was always present.
Today, her creative expression flows freely through different forms, materials, and modalities — from abstract painting and tactile artworks to handcrafted objects and upcycled art. Rather than limiting herself to a single direction, Maija sees creativity as an open, living, and ever-evolving process.
Transformation has become an essential part of her creative philosophy — to reshape, revive, and give new life instead of discarding. Reused materials, textures, raw surfaces, and layered compositions have become an important part of her artistic language.
Living in close connection with nature, one of her greatest sources of inspiration, Maija’s creative world is deeply influenced by her interest in psychology, the human mind, emotions, and the interconnectedness of life and the universe.
Her works invite not only observation but also experience. For Maija, it is important to create art that can be not only seen but also felt — sometimes even through touch. Textures, tactility, and material presence hold a special place in her work, as art for her is not only visual, but also sensory.
Although each work carries a particular idea, the abstract language leaves space for the viewer’s own emotions, imagination, and presence.
